We're delighted to share a case study how Barnsley Hospital has utilised Microsoft Teams and OX.DH to improve the patient and clinician experience.

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust schedules more than 300,000 outpatient appointments per year, an increasing number of which are offered as video consultations. The video solution deployed at speed during the pandemic met an immediate need, but the Trust knew there was potential for improvement. It chose a new, integrated platform using Power Platform and Microsoft Teams for video consultations.

Richard Billam, Deputy Director of ICT at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, says: “Our clinicians were very clear that they didn’t want to spend time rekeying things. They didn’t want to have to log in to different systems. And they didn’t want to use a different platform. Everybody in the Trust uses Microsoft Teams every day. They’re always logged into it and it’s not a new platform to them. They like it.”

The OX.DH digital health platform has been developed and hosted on Microsoft Azure and utilises standard Microsoft services and technologies wherever possible to ensure best-in-class capabilities, simplified support, assured ongoing development and a seamless user experience. This includes leveraging Microsoft Teams for virtual consultations and appointments.

Richard continued to discuss the patient and clinical experience, the roll-out, close integration with the Trust's EPR, how virtual consultations are being embedded across services, and the opportunities ahead.
